African American Adoptions In Illinois

Sunny Ridge remains committed to the African American community by finding loving homes for African American and Biracial infants, as well as providing African American families with the opportunity to adopt. Since 1979, Sunny Ridge has placed over 3,000 children in the arms of loving parents through our adoption programs.

Have you recently considered adoption? Not sure where to start? Sunny Ridge is actively recruiting singles and couples open to adopting African American or biracial infants. About 35 to 50 percent of the infants placed through our domestic adoption program have been African American or Biracial. Almost all of the African American children we place for adoption are healthy infants – usually only a few days old. The average wait time for African American applicants is typically shorter.

Sunny Ridge primarily works with adoptive parents who:

  • are Illinois residents;
  • demonstrate income adequate to support a family;
  • have a secure and stable family life; and
  • meet DCFS licensing standards.

Please note that preference is given to applicants with no more than one child and who are under the age of 42. Couples are required to be married or in a civil union.

For applicants who are not African American but are considering a child who is, Sunny Ridge requires that you attend a series of educational and supportive seminars to assist you in considering the special issues of transracial families.
