Illinois Domestic Adoptions
How Long and How Much?
How long do I have to wait? It’s one of the most often-asked questions for an Illinois Domestic Adoption. A simple answer is difficult because with adoption, there are many choices, and so many variables. The wishes of future birth parents must be taken into consideration, as well as your flexibility in terms of the type of child you wish to adopt. Each adoption is unique, and so too is the length of your adoption process. The current wait time to enter the domestic program is 1-2 years. The exception to this time frame is for African American applicants, as we are actively recruiting additional African American families who wish to adopt.
For many families, one of the most significant factors in the decision to adopt is the cost. This factor can be challenging, because for someone new to the process of adoption, assigning a fee to an adoption could appear as if adoption is merely a financial transaction, or that babies are for sale. At Sunny Ridge, this is never the case. Our mission is to find loving homes for children in need, and to help families fulfill their dream to parent through adoption.
In every adoption, however, there exists the costs for professional services. Services performed by professionals such as home studies, paperwork, licensing, and medical expenses—just to name a few, all must be considered. Finally, Sunny Ridge provides free, professional counseling to women with an unplanned pregnancy. This professional service is partially subsidized by adoptive parent fees.
Keep in mind that fees associated with adoption do not cover all costs associated with providing birth parent services. Sunny Ridge relies on charitable giving and support to help provide these services.
Sunny Ridge strives to maintain a very competitive yet affordable cost for adoption. As a convenience, Sunny Ridge accepts major credit cards when paying for certain adoption-related services. The cost of adopting through the Sunny Ridge Domestic Program:
