Gary L. Longman has served as President since June of 2003. Prior to becoming President, Gary served as a member of the Sunny Ridge Board of Directors for almost six years.
Gary brings a wealth of business and management experience to Sunny Ridge, having built a very successful career with the international accounting firm, KPMG. Gary retired from KPMG in August 2000 after serving the firm for 30 years. For the period from Aug. 2000 to June 2003, he was involved in both business and professional service firm consulting and focused on community involvement, family, friends and travel. Mr. Longman served as Partner in Charge of KPMG’s Assurance practice for the Chicago Metro practice unit (Chicago and Milwaukee offices). In this capacity, he was responsible for the overall direction and growth of the Assurance practice within these two offices. This practice included forty direct report partners and a management group and staff of several hundred. Mr. Longman was a member of the Midwest Assurance Management Committee–the leadership committee of the firm’s Midwest practice.
Previously Mr. Longman was Midwest Partner in Charge of the Manufacturing, Retailing & Distribution practice (MR&D); and Partner in Charge of the firm’s Midwest Information, Communications & Entertainment (ICE) practice. This, the technology practice of the Firm, was a small but the fastest growing practice in the Midwest. Prior to serving in the above noted leadership roles, Mr. Longman served the Firm as Partner in Charge of the Chicago Audit Practice; director for the Chicago Manufacturing and International Practices; and partner in charge of Chicago Office Administration for more than five years. Mr. Longman has also served as lead partner on many of the Chicago office large multinational clients. He served nationally on committees responsible for suggesting and recommending firm-wide direction in the Audit and International arenas to the Board of Directors of KPMG U.S.
In addition to his leadership roles, Mr. Longman has extensive experience serving both private and publicly held multinational companies as clients of KPMG. Mr. Longman received a B.S. in accountancy from Northern Illinois University in 1970. He is a certified public accountant and previous member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society. He previously served as Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee of The First Congregational Church of Western Springs, the Board of Executive Advisors of the College of Business at Northern Illinois University and member or the Board of the Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation. He is a former member of the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Chicago; The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce; Advisory Council – College of Commerce for De Paul University; The Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago – Treasurer for two years, The Mental Health Association of DuPage County – President for two years. Mr. Longman was previously a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.
Mr. Longman is married to his wife Ruth for over 35 years, and has two children. Greg is a graduate of Western Michigan University and is working as an accountant for a utility company in the Milwaukee area. Becky is a graduate of the University of Iowa and is a Sunny Ridge adoptee. She also lives and works in the Milwaukee area. She works for an engineering company in sales and customer support. The family enjoys water sports, snow skiing, golf, and other family-oriented activities.
